Comfortec Frequently Asked Questions

There are many variables in selecting the right furnace or air conditioner for your home, such as total square footage, number of windows, age of your home, and the degree of difficulty for access and installation. All of these factors and more are taken into consideration.

Thirty days from the date of the quote.

A furnace’s efficiency can primarily be determined by two factors: what percentage of each dollar of natural gas purchased is actually used to heat your home; and the type of blower used in the furnace. High efficient furnaces will usually use 95% to 98% of gas purchased. A low constant fan setting (such as found in a variable speed blower) will use as little energy as that needed to run a 75-watt light bulb while maintaining even warmth throughout the house.

Depending on your home structure, heat loss factors and the variable price of natural gas, your furnace retrofit can pay for itself in as little as 3-5 years.  But not only do you save on your monthly heating bills, the cost of being environmentally conscious cannot be underestimated.

A retrofit to an average size home usually takes one day.  We will remove your old furnace and take it away when we leave your premises.  Larger homes, multi-zone projects or multiple features will take longer.

Because a high efficient furnace uses the heated gas so efficiently, exhaust temperatures are considerably lower than conventional furnaces, which allows the use of PVC venting materials through a side wall of your house.

The sooner the better!  As soon as you have completed plans you can call our estimator or bring the plans to our office.  If you have already started building, we should be notified as soon after your foundation is completed as possible.

Rough-in begins after the framing of your home, and includes installing all the ductwork and sheet metal.  Completion is when the furnace and/or air conditioner coil are actually put in place.  This is often completed as soon as the builder needs heat for other building stages.

Not all communities require an inspection.  The City of Red Deer will inspect every new home and retrofit furnace installation.

The ability to control the comfort of your home year-round is priceless.  Most new homes are built so tightly sealed that summer heat becomes trapped and difficult to ventilate.  An air conditioning system guarantees fresh, clean and comfortable air.  Also, with air conditioning you can keep your windows and doors closed for a dust-free environment, cooking and oven use is not restricted, and your sleeping comfort is enhanced.  Why work and travel in air-conditioned offices and vehicles, then come home to a hot house?  We can make your home temperature just right all year.

You can save costs by installing the air conditioner coil at the same time as the furnace because adaptations do not have to be made later.  Venting and lines for both furnace and air conditioning can be installed at the same place and time.

Manufacturer’s specifications and designs do not allow the air conditioning unit to operate under certain conditions to protect the condenser and coil.

This is a unit specifically designed to be mounted on roof-tops, and is usually used in commercial settings.

Tankless hot water systems take up less space and use less natural gas than conventional hot water heaters.  They are also designed to provide hot water to multiple areas at one time.

Only the water you use is heated rather than reheating a full 40 or 50 gallon tank.   Individual burners ignite as the water passes through the system.

Tankless systems are ideal for rural settings because they are easily cleaned and maintained.  A simple, inexpensive pump can be used to flush the system quickly and efficiently using a vinegar solution once or twice a year, depending on your water quality.

We will discuss both options with you after evaluating your needs and facility.  In some cases one system is equally efficient as another.

Depending on your structure, a garage heater may be vented through a side wall or a roof chimney.
